Hi, we're Blacksheep Vietnam, welcome to our flock.
We're a full-stack engineering and product development team based in Hanoi. Our goal is simple: build things so well that clients trust us with their hardest problems, wherever they are in the world.
Now, you might wonder why we're called Blacksheep, and not something that describes what we actually do. The name “Blacksheep” is a reminder, not a slogan.
In every industry, there are teams that follow the playbook and teams that question it. The “black sheep” is the one that doesn’t fit the expected mold, not because it wants attention, but because it refuses to accept weak assumptions, vague plans, and “good enough” quality when the stakes are high.
That’s the mindset we built around this company.
We ask uncomfortable questions early. We challenge requirements that don’t make sense. We simplify designs that are overcomplicated. We document decisions. We test until we trust the results. And when something breaks, we take responsibility, fix it fast, and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Being a black sheep also means being independent in the ways that matter. We don’t rely on a chain of third parties to deliver critical work. We invest in the tools, processes, and people needed to do the job end to end, under one roof, with one accountable team.

Blacksheep Vietnam was founded by Mark Gilligan, who spent two decades building Blacktrace Holdings in the UK - one of the country's leading advanced science and engineering groups, including Dolomite Microfluidics and Particle Works. That work meant designing and manufacturing precision scientific instruments, in small volumes.
Mark first visited Vietnam around 2010 when he noticed something most people hadn't: strong engineering talent, a manufacturing base moving fast, and almost none of it visible to the outside world.
In 2019, Blacksheep Vietnam was founded in Hanoi to bring that same standard here. As Mark puts it: “I strive to do things that have never been done before and at the leading edge of what can be done.”
That's the standard we were built to meet.

We work across three demanding areas:
Each one needs the same thing: engineering, design, and manufacturing working together as one system. Our services cover the full process — product development, manufacturing, market access into Vietnam, and marketing support for technical companies — so a client can come to us with a concept and leave with a working, manufactured product.
We work with companies that need complex, high-precision products developed and built properly, in small volumes, to standards that don't bend.
Blacksheep Vietnam has grown to a team of more than 20 engineers, working out of Hanoi. We've built a track record across two demanding fields — scientific instruments and electric vehicle development — including designing and manufacturing a complete electric motorbike from scratch in Vietnam.
The Blacksheep ONE is proof [Link]. A high-performance electric motorbike — motor, battery, power electronics, cooling, control systems — all designed and built entirely in-house.
Vietnam is known for manufacturing scale. Not yet for engineering this complex. That gap is why we're here. We're not here to grow fast. We're here to build things that actually work.
